Stop the suffering before it starts

Bali has a huge street dog population, and in many communities there simply isn’t the money, access, or support to care for more puppies and kittens. That doesn’t make people cruel. It makes the situation impossible.

So the cycle continues: litters born on the street, disease spreading fast, injuries untreated, mums exhausted from repeated pregnancies, and in the worst cases, animals poisoned because locals feel they have no other option to reduce numbers.

Sterilisation is the most humane, effective way to change this.

It prevents puppies and kittens being born into suffering and protects adult dogs and cats from painful, risky births.

ACT Rescue Bali is one of the very few rescues on the island actively fundraising for prevention at scale. We don’t just rescue the aftermath, we go where the cycle starts.

Help support this mission

The reality we’re trying to change

A single unsterilised female dog can have multiple litters. Those puppies grow up, and the numbers multiply quickly. On an island already struggling, it creates pressure everywhere:

  • More animals on the street than communities can support
  • Higher disease spread (parvo, distemper, parasites, skin disease)
  • More hunger, injuries, and suffering
  • More conflict between street dogs and people trying to stay safe
  • More desperate “solutions” like poisoning

When you fund sterilisation, you’re not funding a one-off procedure. You’re funding fewer animals suffering in the first place.

What we do

We run village sterilisation days across Bali, working with local communities to neuter and spay dogs and cats who would otherwise continue producing litters.

Our team travels to areas where help is needed most, then:

  • Identify animals in need with reminders and support from locals
  • Arrange safe transport and handling
  • Provide spay and neuter procedures through qualified veterinary teams
  • Support recovery and provide aftercare guidance
  • Track numbers so donors can see real impact over time

It’s hands-on, logistically intense, and genuinely life-changing.

Our impact so far

Since 2018, ACT Rescue Bali has sterilised:

14,199 animals 🎉

That number represents thousands of births prevented, and thousands of adult animals spared the risks of repeated pregnancy. It also means fewer street animals, fewer disease outbreaks, and safer communities.

Where your donation goes

Your support helps us fund the real costs behind each sterilisation day, including:

  • Veterinary procedures and medical supplies
  • Safe handling, transport, and coordination
  • Post-op care and recovery support
  • Follow-up visits where needed
  • Ongoing outreach to reach new villages and communities

Every donation turns into something practical: fewer puppies on the street, fewer mums suffering, and more stability for communities doing their best.
